I can't tell you the last time I had a "real" Orange Julius!!! Okay, maybe I could tell you, but I don't want to make myself feel any older than I am by telling you that it was probably 20 years ago which would have made me 13 years old. It was a looonnnggg time ago and my Mom introduced me to them {I believe it was in Denver}. I have probably only had 2 count em' 2 "real" Orange Julius' in my life.
Since I live in the sticks and Denver is a 5 hour trip for us I do not get to have an Orange Julius whenever I want one. When I was pregnant with my son I had this ginormous craving for citrus and specifically and Orange Julius. So what is a pregnant girl to do.......find the closest recipe you can to the original!!!
6 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup lowfat milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup white sugar {can use less if you don't like it so sweet}
1/2 tsp vanilla
12 ice cubes
Place orange juice, milk, sugar, and vanilla in a blender and blend for 1 minute. Add ice cubes one at a time and blend until completely crushed. Serve immediately. Servings 4.
So there you have it. A super simple recipe that is pretty darn close to the original Orange Julius.

We still enjoy them from time to time from a recipe similar to yours. I haven't had one from the 'store' in years either! I worked in the mall so I'd get one every day at lunch time! Loved them!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try your recipe!! I'm thinkin' right now might be a good time!!
Come to Kearney! We have a real orange julias!!!! Thanks for the recipe, sometimes the homemade ones are even better!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Kearney had one!!! Where at????
ReplyDeleteInside Dairy Queen! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have a similar recipe, too. I never add the extra sugar, but sometimes I add a frozen banana. So delish! I won't ever pay "retail" price for one again ~ they're outrageous!
