Painted Mason Jar Vase

Wheat harvest is in full swing and the bountiful waving wheat fields are rapidly become stubble fields.  I wanted to admire the gorgeous heads of wheat for just a little longer so I made this mason jar vase to display some in.  It is pretty simple....I rattle canned {spray paint for all you new wonderful followers} a mason jar white.

Now, I can admire the wheat for months to come.  I displayed it in my vintage crates that I am in love with.  It's perfect, shabby, and very inexpensive!

Thanks for stopping by!

Pioneer Woman Cookbook Giveaway

Woohoo, 100 FANTASTIC followers are keeping up with The Farmer's Wife!!!  I have been waiting {like biting my fingernails off kind of waiting} for this milestone to do a giveaway!!!  You all love giveaways, right?  I will tell you how to enter to win the fabulous Pioneer Woman Cookbook after I get done rambling on...ha!!

I have been so busy the past couple weeks, but have thoroughly enjoyed what has been keeping me that way.  I have been behind the lens of my camera capturing some timeless photos.  No, I am not a professional photographer.  I am a girl with a camera, teaching myself how to use it.  Although, I would love to take a class someday.

  My friends daughter got married and I took their wedding photos!  It was a beautiful wedding with so many creative ideas and a very artistic couple.  I took their engagement photos as well, so I had a feel for their personalities.  I loved that they wanted some nontraditional shots.  It was so much fun and I hope to share some of the pictures with you soon.

I got a call Wednesday from a friend who wanted some photos of her beautiful children.  I spent Thursday morning behind my camera capturing some cute kiddos.  To top off the week, I took some senior pictures bright and early Sunday morning in the wheat fields {since the combines are in full force we wanted to get some before the wheat was gone}.  Then tonight, I took survivor pictures for the Relay for Life.  Our county Relay for Life will be held next Friday and I will be taking photos for that too.  They are going to put me up in a bucket truck so I can take the photos from above.  I told my hubs that he better make sure they let me down or he won't have meals delivered to the field or clean underwear!!!

For not being a professional photographer, I sure have felt like one this week.  Not only have I spent a lot of time behind my camera, I have spent most of it behind the computer editing, editing, editing, and editing photographs.  Photoshop and I are bonding quite well this week.

On with the giveaway....

Because of you, my first-class readers I couldn't love blogging more.  Each comment I receive totally makes my day.  So keep those marvelous comments coming!!  To say THANK YOU I would love for you to have a chance at this giveaway.

Strawberry Sherbet Smoothie

IT IS HOT!

IT IS WINDY!

IT IS DRY!
{we desperately need rain}

With the weather not cooperating I decided to make myself  a smoothie....you know.... to cool off.  Smoothies are good.  Smoothies are yummy.  Smoothies are delicious!  Smoothies make you feel better when it doesn't rain!  Slurp Slurp!

Okay, before I get to the super simple recipe can you help me out?!?  Is there any such thing as SHERBERT or is there only SHERBET?

1 Pound Fresh Frozen Strawberries
{I do not hull mine....people tell me there is a lot of nutrition in the hull....and I believe them}
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Buttermilk
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice

Combine strawberries and sugar in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Stir together buttermilk and lemon juice in a measuring cup and, with the machine running, pour through the feed tube. Process until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl once or twice.  Makes 4 servings 3/4 cup each.  Enjoy!

The BIG Kitchen Reveal

HERE IT IS.....THE BIG KITCHEN REVEAL!!!

If you would like to look back at our DIY kitchen project you can check them out here:
Part 4

As I promised, here's the photos of the completed kitchen remodel.  I was literally using a hair dryer to dry some wet paint prior to taking the photos.  Never a dull moment!

Here is the kitchen before.

And here is the GORGEOUS kitchen now!!!

A new stainless steel stove and hood.  The rugs are from Target.

Remember we only painted the wall halfway because we were going to do something striking.  What do you think of the board and batten?  I LOVE it!!!  My SIL wasn't too sure at first, but she loves it now that it is done.

The floors are curly walnut laminate from Lowes.  She went "cheap" on the laminate and went high end on the underlayment...a suggestion from my contractor BIL.  They turned out amazing and the noise is minimal because of the quality underlayment.

We added 2 contemporary pendant lights above the sink and chose not to hang a curtain on the top of window so the lights would be a focal point.

To give some character to the kitchen I suggested adding some moulding around the doorway that leads to the living room.  I am glad she went for it because it is one of my favorite features now.

I made this board with drawer pulls 5 minutes {REALLY} before taking photos.  She needed a place to hang items such as her Coach purse {this is the one I was telling you about here}.  Oh, and her potholders and apron also have a spot now!  This is what I was using the blow dryer for...ha!

The kitchen curtains are actually napkins!  We used 4 of them so that you can see them from the outside as well.  It was so simple and they can be easily changed because we used curtain rings with clips.

We added some simple wall decor from Target.

A few accessories to add a pop of color!  The yellow fruit bowl is from target along with the coffee cups, table runner, and potholder.  No kitchen is complete unless you have a Pioneer Woman Cookbook!

If you follow me on Facebook, you may remember me mentioning I went to an auction.  We scored this sink there for $47!!!!  It was BRAND NEW in the box and I know it is a $350 sink because I have the same one in my kitchen.  SCORE!!!  The cabinets did not have hardware on them before so we added some contemporary hardware in a brushed nickel finish.  The drawer pulls are rockin' it!!!

A couple of before and afters.  What do you think?

It is a totally different kitchen now!!

To recap what has been done to the kitchen:
Removed soffit
Painted kitchen cabinets {inside and out...a BIG job}
New countertops
New backsplash
New lighting & ceiling fan {it is Nebraska and we need them}
Scraped the popcorn ceilings
New laminate flooring
New hardware
New sink
Added board & batten and moulding
Painted EVERY square inch of the place including window frames and doors
I'm sure I am forgetting something.

Future plans for the kitchen are updating the fridge with a new stainless steel one, adding a stainless steel dishwasher, and maybe some more decor, but other than that it is FINISHED!!!

Like what you see?  I have included links to some of the products we used for the remodel.

Countertops were from Menards
Cabinet door hardware was from Menards
Drawer pulls were from Menards
Backsplash was from Home Depot
Flooring was from Lowes
Kitchen curtains {napkins} were from Target
Table runner was from Target
Wall decor was from Target
Rugs were from Target
Pendant lights were from Menards, but I couldn't find a link for them.  These are very similar.

I 'm anxious to hear what you have to say.  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the kitchen.  Don't forget to follow The Farmer's Wife on Facebook!
