Herbie Husker Garden

I can't tell you how excited I am about my HERBie Husker garden!!!  Spring is here {according to the calendar, but not this Nebraska weather} and I was thrilled to purchase some herbs!!!

Meet Herbie Husker Garden....


I found this container at a local retail store for $10 {on sale}.  It has 4 pails that are connected together and has a handle which makes it easy to move around.  Herbie is sporting oregano, cilantro, parsley, and dill.  Doesn't he look stunning!!!!!  He adds a little "life" to my kitchen too!!!


Here is the cute little wood handle nestled in amongst all the herbs.  Should I paint the handle Husker red??????


I used my Cricut machine and some black vinyl to label each pail {not that I don't know which herb is which} to give Herbie some personality.

I have never grown herbs, but I am looking forward to cooking with fresh flavorful herbs.  I also plan to dry the oregano and dill.  I am not sure if I will dry the cilantro and parsley.  I have read that parsley and cilantro will mold fast because they contain quite a bit of moisture {but I am new to this....so what do I know}.  Any greenthumbs out there have any advice on drying herbs?

  1. I LOVE it! What a deal you found. Love the Husker name, too! Definitely paint the handle (GO BIG) RED!!I love how you put the names on, too, it does give the pots some character. I want some!

    I was in McCook yesterday and stopped at Common Scents Greenhouse. WOW!!! What a glorious place. Lovely. Their plants, herbs, flowers, etc. are ALL soooooo gorgeous. While there I picked up a few herbs, too. Maybe we can share?! I, too, am new at this so maybe we can help each other. I bought Parsley and Cilantro and just for fun Rosemary and Basil (because those are the names of my daughter's sheep).

    As far as the drying goes . . . a friend of mine picked the whole stems of her mint and hung them upside down in her garage for a couple of weeks and it worked GREAT ~ unfortunately that's all I know about that subject so far. I was lucky enough to be the recipient of a jar of her dried mint. It is in my cupboard and I use it when I make Indian food. So nice to have it there!

  2. My sister's MIL takes her cilantro, puts it in a ziploc and throws it right into the freezer, she says it works well and tastes awesome. Sounds easier.

  3. I love it! I have been wanting to try growing herbs forever...I was gonna use a strawberry pot, but I like yours much better! Can I ask what store you found yours at?

  4. I got the pot at Pamida. The pot does not have a brand name on it, but maybe try searching the internet for one. Good luck!!!
